Finale: Your Superpower Monthly Poetry Group

Celebrate Anything Cake | recipe developed by Karen of www.BakingInATornado.com | #recipe #cake

Last Friday of the month is for
Monthly Poetry Group to rhyme.
Diane, Mimi, and I take turns,
Your Superpower, the theme this time.

As usual, today I'll try,
a poem to write . . . or fudge.
Whether I'm successful or not,
you get to be the judge.

Finale, a Your Superpower themed poem, and a good-bye to blogging | graphic designed by, featured on, and property of Karen of www.BakingInATornado.com | #poetry #blogging

Finale

Superpowers are fluid things
often changing throughout life,
Quite different when single,
than as a mom and wife.

College found me taking tests,
with hardly any sleep.
My superpower? Partying,
and yet, good grades, I'd keep.

Marriage and moving far away,
to where I'd not fit in,
Sometimes superpower can be,
just not giving in.

IVF, loss, and pregnancy,
the struggle, it was real.
Superpower in those years:
making mind and body heal.

When raising babies, some days,
wonder how we all stay alive.
My superpower in that time:
setting each of us up to thrive.

Family life frequently changes,
I later had time for me.
Exploring possibilities . . .
what would my superpower be?

Blogging was the answer,
recipe development too.
Writing something from the heart,
and creating yummies too.

My superpower in those years,
creating a blog community.
Developing, running challenges,
cultivating support and unity.

Eleven and a half years gone by,
done more than I planned to do.
Blog superpower's run its course,
though I'll miss all of you.

A superpower needn't be,
something way over the top.
Today it's just as simple as,
saying it's time to stop.

Hurrah

Holidays are a hectic time,
there's so much going on.
Parties, gifts, cookie exchange,
and Secret Santas are drawn.

Planning and then preparing for
meals, and snacks, and sweets.
Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, birthdays too.
Come to my house, everyone eats.

Working in the kitchen, I
await kids from near and far.
Excited, anticipating, as
I listen for their car.

Making their favorite recipes,
and trying a few that are new.
I double up on everything so,
they'll have some to take home too.

Peach Pecan Pie

No matter how much work it takes,
it bothers me not a bit.
'Cause having us all together here,
makes me happy. And I know it.

Appraisal

All that glitters is not gold,
that's the story we've been told.
Just because something is pretty,
doesn't mean that's its nitty gritty.

Don't look only at the outside,
open up your mind, (really, really wide).
Look beneath the surface, there's no doubt,
if you don't, you'll be missing out.

Sometimes things aren't as we'd planned,
not being pretty doesn't make food bland.
Take time to check out what's within,
that open mind is the best way to win.

Chive Quick Rolls (no yeast)

An important lesson, I'll concede,
one of value, we all should heed.
And don't judge a book by its cover too,
what doesn't glitter could be gold to you.

So listen, if I may be so bold,
sometimes what glitters is, in fact, gold.
Appraise opportunities as they come by,
Don't be left holding the bag and wondering why.

Seeing Red

Flags are flying everywhere,
they're loyalty on display,
Country, college, favorite teams,
solidarity with loved ones, gay.

Rev your engines, hit the gas,
when it's speed that we embrace.
Faster, faster, 'til we see,
checkered flags that end the race.

And when I'm at a cookout,
trying everything's a feat.
But I throw in the white flag when
there's no more I can eat.

Morals and values at issue,
our politics are a disgrace.
Our freedom is in jeopardy,
unless we win this race.

'Cause though they aren't physical,
I see red flags everywhere.
They signify grave danger,
unless we vote with care.

Any Time

"I can make you an appointment,"
it's what he'd say all day.
Running a busy law office,
most often went that way.

Later, back at home he was,
tired but happy to see,
his wife and daughter waiting,
makes him happy as can be.

Daughter loved her nuggets,
which she {{sigh}} shared with the dog.
White Wine Mustard Chicken for him,
a taste test for wife's future blog.

"What do you do, daddy,
while I'm learning in first grade?"
"I run a busy office," he said
"boss's appointments must be made."

White Wine Mustard Chicken

Doing weekend yard work when
he heard his daughter say,
"I make an appointment, daddy,
so that we can run and play?"

Standing, wiping off the dirt,
he turned and looked her way,
"no appointment necessary, love,
you just made my day!"
