Coloring Book: Use Your Words

Today’s post is a monthly writing challenge. If you’re new here, this is how it works: participating bloggers picked 4 – 6 words or short phrases for someone else to craft into a post. All words must be used at least once. All of the posts will be unique as each writer has received their own set of words. That’s the challenge, here’s a fun twist; no one who’s participating knows who got their words and in what direction the recipient will take them. Until now.

At the end of this post you’ll find links to the other blogs featuring this challenge. Check them all out, see what words they got and how they used them.
I'm using: toilet ~ stairs ~ booze ~ hound ~ coloring book
They were submitted by Dawn of Spatulas on Parade.

I'm afraid I looked at the words "booze" and "toilet" and had some pretty nasty flashbacks to my college years. I'm sure you don't want to hear those stories, and I'm even more sure I don't want to tell them. In an attempt to stop my mind from regurgitating (pun intended) those memories, I had to walk away and engage in some stress relieving activities. Like cooking. And coloring.

Cooking portion of our program done, let's move on to coloring. I have a coloring book of my own:

So I decided to use my words and make you all one. Since you aren't here, I even colored it in for you too. You're welcome.

Humpty Doggy (actually a hound named Jack)
sat on a wall (of stairs)
eating his curds and whey (or drinking his homeowner's booze, as the case may be):

Jack fell down, and broke his crown,
the moonshine came tumbling after:

All the king's horses and all the king's men,
couldn't get Jack's head out of the toilet again:

Don't believe I colored it in myself? Here's a pic of the first page while I was in the process of expressing my artistic talent:

Yeah, maybe I better stick to cooking.

Grilled Spiced Cabbage
                                               ©www.BakingInATornado.com

Ingredients:
1 head cabbage
2 TBSP orange juice
1/8 tsp pepper
1/8 tsp cumin
1/8 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp paprika
1/4 tsp salt

Directions:
*Stand the cabbage up on the core. Cut it in half from the top down. Lay each half down and cut them in half, creating 4 wedges.
*Place 2 TBSP water in a microwave safe glass baking pan that will fit all 4 wedges side by side. Add the cabbage, cover with plastic wrap, cut a few holes in the top and microwave for 5 minutes. The cabbage will just start to soften.
*Mix together the orange juice, pepper, cumin, cinnamon, paprika and salt.
*Remove the cabbage to a plate and drizzle the cut sides with the marinade. Preheat grill to about 400 degrees.

*Place the cabbage on the grill, one of the cut sides down. Reduce the heat a little so it maintains the heat level, you don't want it to get higher. Cook for 4 minutes.
*Turn each cabbage piece 1/4 of a turn, keeping the same side down and cook for another 4 minutes.
*Turn the cabbage wedges over so the other cut side is down. Cook another 4 minutes.

  1. I love your creative use of words! In all seriousness, I actually love coloring. I think I could use the excuse that my students or own children liked it. But the truth is, it's very relaxing. BTW, I'm going to need a copy of your coloring book. <3

    1. I know exactly what you mean, coloring can be very relaxing (well, except maybe in a trump coloring book, but that thing is good for a laugh).

  2. You did a great job coloring, Karen. You stayed within the lines at all times. Gold stars!

I heard of the coloring book Trump issued for people who wish to support his campaign. Jimmy Kimmel said it even comes with a box of 50 shades of orange crayola ;-)))

    1. I didn't hear about the trump issued coloring book, but I can assure you that this is NOT that one. He'd probably swallow his tongue if he saw this one.

  4. Bwahahahaha! Brilliant!
    Poor old Jack.
    I blame his owners.
I think we have a lesson here to homeowners who leave their moonshine where not-so-innocent pets can get into it.
Remind me to tell you about the time Daddy was cooking rye mash for the cattle and it 'went bad', so the hired man dumped it into the barnyard.
    Where the chickens were . . .
