Stupid Guy Things

Chocolate Peanut Butter Ice Cream Pie, an easy to assemble family favorite summertime dessert. | Recipe developed by www.BakingInATornado.com | #recipe #dessert

Today is officially National Stupid Guy Thing Day. Yes, it really is. Google it (I did).

It shouldn't surprise you to hear that National Stupid Guy Thing Day was created by a guy. Two actually. It would take a man (or two) to think that there should only be one day dedicated to these little lapses incidents. Optimistic or unrealistic as those 2 men may be, these occurrences are common, not phenomenon. I should know, I celebrate endure live it. Daily. That's, I guess, what happens when you spend 20 years being the only woman living with 3 males. And it's not only adult men, it seems boys get plenty of practice basically from birth. Must be a trait that's passed along in the "Y" chromosome. Something scientists should maybe look into as, it's become clear, stupid guy things have a cause-and-effect relationship to female sanity (pro and con). I would know.

Today I'm celebrating the not particularly clearly thought out, frequently mind-boggling actions of my male family members. Why celebrate? Because (back to the mental health thing) those stupid guy things are both a blessing and a curse.

Withstanding the stupid guy things curse:

Hubs being supportive: When the boys were little they would complain if they didn't like what was for dinner. I kept trying, but any meal that didn't meet their approval, I'd hear about it. Hubs generally ignored the situation, often infuriating me as I'd like a little support (and once made the mistake of telling him so). The next time they complained, he angrily expressed his support for the cook by saying "that's enough. I eat plenty of dinners around here that I don't like and you don't hear me complaining."

Hubs being handy: Often when we buy furniture that requires home assembly, we do it together. It works out best that way. We had purchased a desk and apparently Hubs decided to assemble it himself. He was so proud as he had me come see. On closer inspection, something looked off. Ends up he'd glued the trim on backwards, unfinished side out.

Hubs being helpful: I was out of town. After explaining to him on the phone 147 times (that may be a small exaggeration) how to open the tab in our dishwasher to add the detergent, Hubs finally just gave up and washed the dishes without it.

Hubs being nurturing: I was sick, very sick with the flu. I really, really needed to do laundry but just couldn't get up. Hubs reassured me that there was no reason to wash the clothes, I was just too sick and I shouldn't worry about it. I thought that meant that he'd do them. Turns out it meant that the laundry could wait until I was feeling better.

And counting the stupid guy things blessings.

~ They are the best excuse for indulging my chocolate addiction. I don't need an excuse, of course, but he provides them anyway.

Chocolate Peanut Butter Ice Cream Pie

~ They're easy fodder for the blog, a bottomless supply of inspiration. Seriously. Today included. Truth is, if you read my Fly on the Wall posts (you should, you know), you've been laughing along with me at these guy things for years.

~ And that leads me to the main reason I'm celebrating National Stupid Guy Thing Day, and it goes back to the impact on my sanity. Because through it all, these guys and their "do now, think later" approach to life keeps me laughing. And laughter is the best medicine.

Well, laughter and chocolate.

They keep me laughing. I keep me in chocolate. It works.

At this moment, Hubs is outside rerouting the drain pipe from the in the basement. More than likely celebrating National Stupid Guy Thing day in yet another of his unique ways. Can't wait to see how this goes. I'm two floors up but perhaps I should put on a bathing suit, you know, just in case.

In the meantime, pass the Chocolate Peanut Butter Ice Cream Pie. No need to slice it, I'll just take the serving plate and a fork.

Happy National Stupid Guy Day, hope you get a chance to celebrate. With a laugh. And a pie.

Ingredients:
2 1/2 cups chocolate graham cracker crumbs, divided
15 peanut butter sandwich cookies, divided
3 TBSP sugar
5 TBSP milk
1 container (48 oz) vanilla ice cream
1 cup Butterfinger bits or chopped Butterfinger candy bars
1 cup Reese's Pieces or Peanut Butter M&Ms
3 TBSP chocolate syrup

OPT: garnish with shaved chocolate, whipped cream, and/or additional peanut butter candies

Directions:
*Crush 5 of the peanut butter sandwich cookies to crumbs. Mix with 1/2 cup of the chocolate graham cracker crumbs and set aside.
*Lightly grease a 9 inch springform pan.
*Mix 2 cups chocolate graham cracker crumbs with the sugar and milk. Press into and partially up the sides of the springform pan. Place in the freezer.
*Divide the ice cream evenly into 2 bowls. If the ice cream is not soft enough to work with, you may need to let it sit on the counter for 10 minutes before proceeding.
*Mix the Butterfinger bits into the ice cream in one of the bowls. Remove the springform pan from the freezer and spread the ice cream with the Butterfinger bits evenly into the crust.
*Sprinkle the reserved chocolate graham cracker and peanut butter cookie crumb mixture evenly onto the ice cream in the crust and freeze for 30 minutes.
*Meanwhile, chop the remaining peanut butter cookies into small pieces but not crumbs. Mix them and the Reese's Pieces or Peanut Butter M&Ms into ice cream in the other bowl, then mix in the chocolate syrup. Refrigerate.
*Once the pan has been in the freezer for 30 minutes, remove it and layer the ice cream from the refrigerator onto the top of the pie. Freeze for 45 minutes.
*To serve, run a knife around the edges of the springform pan and remove the pie. Garnish as desired. Keep any leftovers covered in the freezer.

    1. Yeah, they keep us laughing, but they so eat all the pie if you don't keep watch.

  2. I agree! Recently I learned about some really harebrained things my children did when they were teenagers that would have turned me prematurely gray if I had been privy to it back then.

  4. Can't live with them. Can't live without them. Mine cooks - and chars potholders, melts measuring cups, destroys spatulas - and the list goes on. I could set up a Destroyed Cookware and Accessories museum, but I do love his cooking. Oh, and that chocolate peanut butter ice cream pie is being drooled over. That one I'll have to do. 5. Oh, but the tales most of us can tell. Sometimes you laugh because it's better than crying.

Hope you put on the swim suit but didn't need it.

  6. Ohmygoodness, I'm sitting in a public place and I am just laughing out loud about your hubs not complaining EITHER about the dinners he disliked ;-))))

How did the rerouting of the drain pipes work out at your house? We had an ugly thunder-/hail storm the other night, and many people had to call the firefighters to pump out tons of water.

    1. Hubs was able to get the water to drain into the back yard instead of the side. He filled in the trench and planted some sod. We'll see how that goes.
