Cheerless: Cheer Up the Lonely Poetry

Aromatics Roasted Chicken Leg Quarters. Comfort food at its best, this simple dish includes chicken legs and thighs pan roasted over aromatics. | recipe developed by www.BakingInATornado.com | #recipe #dinner

Poetry Monday's once a week.
You may have guessed, it's each Monday.
I don't participate every time,
But today I've come out to play.

My friends assign each week a theme,
Cheer the Lonely's what they chose.
Now it's up to all of us,
to put our thoughts into prose.

Cheerless

He rang the doorbell constantly,
seemed almost every day.
When I went to answer him,
said what he'd come to say.

I'm sure he felt he offered,
what I might truly need.
Mightily tried to build rapport,
in his quest he'd not succeed.

He sure was persistent,
(and friendly as could be),
but when creating in the kitchen,
concentration is my key.

Aromatics Roasted Chicken Leg Quarters

Since he lived so close by,
I knew I had to be kind.
But if he didn't take a hint,
I just might lose my mind.

"Thought you might be lonely,"
his lame joke came off as plea.
My answer was to inform him,
"I like being with me.

So no matter how many times,
my doorbell you may ring,
or the number of your pamphlets,
with you, you may bring,

I will not buy your lawn service,
I've got one, by the way,
Can I go without hearing from you,
for just one single day?"

  1. Hmmm...I guess someone needs to tell him that giving out greeting cards would be a bit more cheering to the 'lonely' than lawn service pamphlets! 😄
Super job on the poem! And now I'm craving chicken...

    1. We get a whole forest's worth of pamphlets in our door in the spring.

    2. Yikes! And some of them are probably protesting the senseless cutting of trees! 😄

  2. I have fallen in love with yard work (especially now that I have my shirts!). I've been waiting to mow as I haven't gotten to while I waited for them, hubby did it. Now, he keeps saying, "it's not long enough". I LOVE it for some reason. My headphones, my sweet tea (it has a cup holder lol) and I am gone. Especially in the late evening. Nothing better!

    1. Yes, I enjoyed it too, know exactly where you're coming from. Hope that lawn grows fast.

  3. There is a company here that retrofits your gutters to filter out leaves and debris and I might have been tempted except that they have fliers in the paper almost every day, plus are seemingly everywhere else and I am just sick of their "offers". Wonder if your person is related to them? Our lawn is small; probably that's why we aren't bugged by those services (knock on wood). Wear down the homeowner? I'd rather sniff your chicken dish cooking. Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com

    1. Yeah, some of those companies don't get that too much is too much.

  5. We're blessed to have voted in the crime prevention district for our area, so we are a no solicitation neighborhood. Of course, i miss the Girl Scouts selling cookies and the grade school kids selling candy, i never minded them.

    1. Wait. No solicitation neighborhood? That's a thing? Never heard of it, but count me in.
And, don't know if they do it there, but the Girl Scouts set up tables in front of a lot of stores around here.
