Take Your Swing: Word Counters

Orange Everything Chicken | recipe developed by Karen of www.BakingInATornado.com | #recipe #dinner

Counting my words again.

Today my fellow Word Counters and I are sharing our monthly group post. Each month, one group member picks a number between 12 and 50. All participating bloggers are then challenged to write something (or a few somethings, as the case may be) using that exact number of words. Today we share what we all came up with.

 This month's number is 31
It was chosen by Mimi of Messymimi's Meanderings.

As I've been doing in these Word Counters posts, I've chosen a theme and am using my word count multiple times in keeping with the theme. This month I've chosen the theme Take Your Swing.

~ I've been playing the lottery. A lot. If you follow this blog's facebook page (if not, stop by and join us), you've probably seen the memes I've posted. About my losses {{sob}}.

~ Actually, it's Hubs who plays, on my behalf. I had chosen some numbers many years ago, ones that have meaning to me. Numbers I associated with luck, like dates of birth.

~ Hubs must have those numbers because every now and then in the past, but regularly lately as the pot approaches a billion dollars, he comes home and hands me a ticket.

~ Some say playing is foolish, chances of winning are one in a bazillion. But . . . two dollars isn't a hit to the budget, someone ultimately wins, and the lesser prizes are great.

~ Try a new recipe, or eat the same old things. Sometimes we take our chances. Because this I know, odds are meaningless if you don't play. To win, you gotta play.

~ I know people, even now, who say similar things about voting: there are over a hundred million Americans registered to vote, what are my chances of affecting the win?

~ I'm a huge Red Sox fan, so let me say this: step up to the plate (ballot box) and swing for the fences. We can't win if we don't all play.

Ingredients:
2 large boneless, skinless chicken breast halves
2/3 cup orange juice
1 tsp orange zest
1 tsp Everything Bagel Seasoning, my recipe HERE

Directions:
*Cut each chicken breast half into 3 - 4 pieces of similar thickness.
*Mix together the orange juice, orange zest, and Everything Bagel Seasoning. Place the chicken pieces into a resealable bag and pour the marinade into the bag with the chicken. Refrigerate for 4 hours, turning the bag now and then to be sure all of the chicken pieces are coated.
*Preheat your grill to medium, about 350 degrees. Place the chicken pieces on the grill and discard the remaining marinade. How long you need to grill your chicken will depend on the thickness of the pieces and the heat of your grill, approximately 7 - 10 minutes per side, until the chicken is completely cooked all the way through.

  1. Ohmyword, yes! Your chances of winning may be only slightly better if you play. Or vote. But you still have to play to have any chance at all!

    1. And if no one thinks they can win (voting), then apathy wins.

  2. So. I 'm making this soon, I think. And playing the lottery, anyway!

  3. While I do vote, whether it counts or not, I don't play the lottery. I'm not saying it's wrong, and it can be entertaining to watch them draw the numbers and see if you won something, I simply haven't had the urge to do that in a long time.

    Everything chicken sounds very versatile.

    1. We don't play the lottery often either, but when it gets up around a billion dollars, it's hard to resist.

  4. I have a weekly ticket in our Loto sometimes I win enough for the next weeks ticket but not always. I doubt I will every win but you never know

  5. I live in a congressional district that had a squeaker in 2020 (I think the winner won by something like 47 votes and the race got national attention) so I would say to everyone, vote no matter the odds; your vote really does count. As for the lottery, we don't. Play, that is. Years ago, my employer did business with a company and I had to talk a lot with a man there as part of my job. He won the lottery. It was the worst thing that ever happened to him (his opinion). Destroyed his relationships, just for starters. I've heard too many stories like that. (Pro tip; if you pool money with others for tickets keep very careful records of who chipped in for what). But good luck and if you win I'll hope you are one of the success stories!

    1. What a horrible situation to have such good luck go so bad. I do know everyone says that if you win you need to talk to a lawyer and an accountant before doing anything else.

  6. I'm sure if you ever win it big you'll keep the information on the down low :-)

  7. If we had a lottery here in Las Vegas I would probably play every once in a while. I would have to travel to California to play the lottery. But instead we have casinos and I haven't stepped foot in one in years. I played when I first got here and for several years after and never won anything big so I stopped because I was wasting my money.

    1. I've been to the casinos a few times and it's fun, but only infrequently. I think if I went regularly, it wouldn't be fun any more.
