Thanksgiving Gobble Cookies
©www.BakingInATornado.com Printable Recipe
Ingredients (makes 30 - 36 cookies):
1/2 stick butter, softened
1/2 stick margarine, softened
3/4 cup sugar
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla
1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
2 TBSP baking cocoa
orange food coloring (1 part red to three parts yellow)
1 TBSP flour
mini M&Ms, approximately 72
sunflower seeds (shelled), approximately 36
candy corn, approximately 144 pieces
chocolate jimmies (sprinkles)
Directions:
*Beat butter, margarine and sugar. Beat in egg and vanilla. Add flour, baking powder and salt.
*Divide dough into 2 fairly equal sections.
*Add orange food coloring and the 1 TBSP flour to one part. To the other, add the baking cocoa.
*Roll out each dough segment (separately) between 2 pieces of wax paper to about 9 X 11 inches.
*Carefully flip the orange layer on top of the chocolate layer, lining it up as evenly as possible. Lay them flat in the refrigerator and chill approximately 1 hour.
*Trim the edges of the dough where they don't overlap if you choose. Using the wax paper to help you, roll up the dough (the long side) until you have a tube shaped round.
*Roll the round in chocolate jimmies.
*Wrap the dough roll in plastic wrap and refrigerate for about an hour.
*Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Put parchment paper onto baking sheet.
*Slice the roll into approximately 1/4 inch slices. In the center of each cookie, press 2 mini M&Ms for eyes and a sunflower seed just below for a beak.
*Bake for approximately 12 minutes.
*Remove from oven and quickly press 3 - 4 candy corn "feathers" into the top of each cookie, small end sticking into the cookie to secure it.
*Let sit on baking sheet for 1 - 2 minutes before removing to cool completely.
Haha! If you're going to have a house full of naked people walking around while you do the laundry, please remember to close the blinds.
ReplyDeleteAdorable turkey cookies, by the way! I'm a bit addicted to candy corn. Or rather, I was, until I learned about corn syrup being made from black mold (which I'm allergic to).
We back up to woods so we don't even need to close the blinds, just keep to the back of the house, LOL.
DeleteThat is a great collection of 'just once I wished' scenarios :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks, I had a lot of fun with this prompt, as you can probably tell!
DeleteWhat I love about this is that it's a terrific window into your world, something we don't often get to see with people!
ReplyDeleteDon't know if it's a window into my world or my frustrations, but there it is!
DeletePS: just once I wished this stupid comment interface would let me finish my sentence without crashing
ReplyDeleteHA, I'll add that to my "just once" list!
Delete...and let me say what I have to say before I lose my mind!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat cookies! :-)

Yes, quite a few people told me they read this one while nodding their head!
DeleteTHAT is a great prompt for a SSS and you nailed it. The cookies are adorable! Where did you find that color of candy corn? I haven't seen that around in a long time. And candy corn is a weakness of mine….
ReplyDeleteThe candy corn is something like S'Mores flavor. Didn't like the flavor but the colors worked.
DeleteJust once? ;) I've had many of those same thoughts!
ReplyDeleteThose S'mores ones are one of my favs, but only if I eat a few at a time. They are very potent in flavor. Your turkeys are adorable. :)
Well, lets start with just once and we'll go from there!
DeleteMy dream is to someday have every single piece of clothing in my house clean and put away. It'll never happen. Love the cookies - so creative and they look yummy!
ReplyDeleteNo, it'll never happen but it's a nice dream, isn't it?
DeleteGreat prompts and your replies. Just once I would like to say, I don't like sweets! that said; The cookies are adorable.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Haralee. Made these more for the kids than the adults, but they really were fun to make.
