Secret Subject Swap: Just Once

Welcome to another Secret Subject Swap. This week 12 brave bloggers picked a secret subject for someone else and were assigned a secret subject to interpret in their own style. Today we are all simultaneously divulging our topics and submitting our posts.

My subject is: Just once I wish               would stop                   and let me                before I lose my mind. It was submitted by Dinosaur Superhero Mommy.

Just once I wish all  the ingredients that I know I bought would stop disappearing from the fridge and let me get through dinner without returning to the store before I lose my mind.

Just once I wish this family would stop wearing clothes and let me catch up on the damn laundry before I lose my mind.

Just once I wish these hot flashes would stop hot flashing and let me breathe before I lose my mind.

Just once I wish narcissistic celebrities would stop taking compromising selfies that they KNOW some moron will steal and let me see some real news before I lose my mind.

Just once I wish the kitchen equipment I need would stop hiding and let me find it with a minimal amount of swearing before I lose my mind.

  Thanksgiving Gobble Cookies

Just once I wish my allergies would stop making me sneeze my brains out and let me use the one or two brain cells that I have left before I lose my mind.

Just once I wish bars would stop refusing my delivery requests and let me order take-out before I lose my mind.

Just once I wish College Boy would stop using every ounce of gas I have and let me go somewhere . . . ANYWHERE . . . without having to stop at the gas station before I lose my mind.

Just once I wish PurDude would stop being so cryptic and let me actually get a sentence out of him before I lose my mind.

Just once I wish “all parts included” would stop meaning “we only stuck some parts in the box just to screw with you” and let me put a project together without spending hours looking for that last piece before I lose my mind.

Printable Recipe

Ingredients (makes 30 - 36 cookies):
1/2 stick butter, softened
1/2 stick margarine, softened
3/4 cup sugar
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla
1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
2 TBSP baking cocoa
orange food coloring (1 part red to three parts yellow)
1 TBSP flour
mini M&Ms, approximately 72
sunflower seeds (shelled), approximately 36
candy corn, approximately 144 pieces

chocolate jimmies (sprinkles)

Directions:
*Beat butter, margarine and sugar. Beat in egg and vanilla. Add flour, baking powder and salt.
*Divide dough into 2 fairly equal sections.
*Add orange food coloring and the 1 TBSP flour to one part. To the other, add the baking cocoa.
*Roll out each dough segment (separately) between 2 pieces of wax paper to about 9 X 11 inches.
*Carefully flip the orange layer on top of the chocolate layer, lining it up as evenly as possible. Lay them flat in the refrigerator and chill approximately 1 hour.
*Trim the edges of the dough where they don't overlap if you choose. Using the wax paper to help you, roll up the dough (the long side) until you have a tube shaped round.
*Roll the round in chocolate jimmies.
*Wrap the dough roll in plastic wrap and refrigerate for about an hour.
*Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Put parchment paper onto baking sheet.
*Slice the roll into approximately 1/4 inch slices. In the center of each cookie, press 2 mini M&Ms for eyes and a sunflower seed just below for a beak.
*Bake for approximately 12 minutes.
*Remove from oven and quickly press 3 - 4 candy corn "feathers" into the top of each cookie, small end sticking into the cookie to secure it.
*Let sit on baking sheet for 1 - 2 minutes before removing to cool completely.

  1. Haha! If you're going to have a house full of naked people walking around while you do the laundry, please remember to close the blinds.
Adorable turkey cookies, by the way! I'm a bit addicted to candy corn. Or rather, I was, until I learned about corn syrup being made from black mold (which I'm allergic to).

    1. The candy corn is something like S'Mores flavor. Didn't like the flavor but the colors worked.

  9. Just once? ;) I've had many of those same thoughts!

Those S'mores ones are one of my favs, but only if I eat a few at a time. They are very potent in flavor. Your turkeys are adorable. :)
