Poetry time is here again,
seems the days just fly.
December's theme is Cat Herders,
{{deep sigh}}, I guess I'll try.
At least the subject's something,
I know a lot about.
Never had any cats, of course,
toddlers qualify, no doubt.
Bring on the Felines
Had a little party,
for the kids and all their friends.
Started off quite well,
but that's not where it ends.
All the kids were five and six,
same ages as my boys.
Made sure to have games planned,
and plenty of fun toys.
Ten kids for the afternoon,
what could possibly go wrong?
Wait, that's not a slingshot,
I think it's . . .well . . . my thong?
Two in the back yard,
dueling with rakes.
"Don't poke an eye out,"
I plead, "for goodness sakes."
Three throwing toys at
the street from our windows.
How they've caused no accidents,
seems heaven only knows.
Three more in the bathroom,
I can hear the water run.
I don't even dare to look,
at what damage might be done.
And two are eating dirt I see,
they'll have a belly ache.
I know how to stop that one,
"here, have a cupcake."Chocolate Irish Cream Cupcakes
Ooops, I made those cupcakes
using liqueur, Irish cream.
Meh, they'll sleep well tonight,
(and have a crazy dream). "Just keep them all alive," I think,
my job here will be done.
Gotta be responsible (damn),
fight the urge to run.
"Impossible, you can't herd cats,"
that's what they always say.
But after herding ten young boys?
I'll take cats . . . any day!

*Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line 18 cupcake cups with paper liners.
*Beat the cake mix, pudding mix, oil, milk, 1/4 cup Irish Cream liqueur, and eggs for 2 minutes. Dust 1 cup of the Irish Cream baking chips with flour. Gently mix into the batter.
*Scoop the batter into the cupcake liners and bake for 20 - 24 minutes, or until the center springs back to the touch. Cool completely.
*Place the remaining Irish Cream baking chips in a food processor or clean coffee grinder and pulse until they are fine crumbs.
*Beat the cream cheese and butter until smooth. Beat in the crushed Irish Cream baking chips. Add the powdered sugar and beat carefully to incorporate. Add as much of the remaining Irish Cream liqueur, 1 TBSP at a time, until it's a good piping consistency. Put into a piping bag or a gallon size plastic bag (snip the corner) and pipe onto the cooled cupcakes.
Hahahaha! Totally fun!
ReplyDeleteAnd I totally agree!
Yeah, I thought you might.
DeleteOh, that sounds so good. Especially after a boy's birthday party. I remember one in particular (not my son's, but one of his friend's parties that my son was invited to) when he was about 10...unforgettable. It was at a local lake and I probably could have used a dozen cupcakes after that one. Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteThose parties are always memorable, but not always for good reasons . . .
DeleteAlcohol is always good after dealing with a bunch of unruly children :-)
ReplyDeleteI was fiddling around on the internet today and found out that there's an actual National Cat Herder’s Day on December 15th, so your post is very timely.
Yes, we knew that, it was the inspiration for this month's theme!
DeleteFUn is the word here not mum, just saying
ReplyDeleteWell, fun for the kids anyway. Well, and the Mom if she ate enough of those cupcakes, I suppose.
DeleteHeeheehee!
DeleteHaving had cats and boys at the same time, i am not sure which is worse, but that's okay, they are all fun and mostly they do survive our bungling attempts at herding them.
Glad to know that you've survived your attempts at herding them too!
DeleteA little Irish cream never herd anyone.
ReplyDeleteLOL, I see what you did there!
