(Candy Filled) Witch’s Hats
I do, after all, possess many supernatural and magical powers.
Supernatural:
Well, I can mix a cocktail with one hand tied behind my back.
I can do a shot with both hands behind my back.
I can deduce guilt just by looking my kid in the eye.
I can tell, from a full floor away, if a kid is on the computer when he’s supposed to be doing homework.
I can tell you exactly who emptied the candy jar, even if I wasn’t home when it happened.

Magical:
I can make cookies appear.
I can bake a cake that disappears.
I can make lost gloves appear.
I can make socks disappear.
I made 2 amazing boys appear.
And I’m currently working on a spell to make those same 2 boys disappear.

So if the broom fits…
Witch’s Fingers
I know it’s all about the kids (both the holiday and the baking), but the witch’s finger cookie is my favorite. It’s easy to make, I love how it looks, and everyone seems to like it. I’m pleased to say that none of my digits were removed in the making of these treats.

*Holding the cookie in place, gently turn it over and place it on the cookie. Put a dab of black cake writing gel at the top of the cone and “glue” a red hot to the top.
*Using the blue cake-writing gel, make a bow shape on the cookie. Let dry before touching.

Ingredients:
1 stick butter, softened
1 stick butter, softened
1 stick margarine, softened
1 cup powdered sugar
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp almond extract
2 3/3 cups flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
Green food coloring
Sliced almonds
Red cake-writing gel
Chocolate chips
Directions:
*Beat butter, margarine, sugar, egg, almond extract, vanilla and a little green food coloring (can always add more).
*Mix in the flour, baking powder and salt to form a dough. If you want more color, put in more green food coloring once the dough comes together.
*Refrigerate for one hour (I’ve made the dough the day before, too).
*Preheat oven to 325 degrees, grease baking sheets.
*Using about a Tablespoon of dough, roll into a finger shape, thicker on one end and thinner on the other.
*Place the fingers on the cookie sheets and squeeze together in 2 spots to look like knuckles. Make 3 thin slices, not deep and close together just above each “knuckle”. Stick a sliced almond into the cookie just above the thin end to look like a fingernail.
*Bake for 20 minutes. Watch and be sure they don’t get too brown.
*As soon as they come out of the oven, put on a chocolate chip “wart”.
*When they cool, carefully use red cake-writing gel along the sides and bottom of the “nail” to look like “blood”.
These are so CUTE!! You are so creative.
ReplyDeleteThanks, I sure do enjoy this time of year!
DeleteYou're recipes always look so tasty! As you know I am currently doing the Atkins (low carb) diet and I seriously don't think I would be able to pass these up if I were to bake them. Maybe next year (fingers crossed). Can you please use some of your witchy magic powers to make them carb friendly? Wishful thinking!
ReplyDeleteJae Mac, I'm Just Sayin'...(Damn!)
I don't have to worry about diets or carbs. I have teenaged boys who watch for what comes out of the oven, sometimes I don't even get one.
Deletehmm if you figure out how to make those boys disappear please share - we are a little tight for space and as my older ones g on into the teen years, I'm longing for the day I can move them into their own place (Oh is that a dreadful thing to say?) Following you via gfc
ReplyDeleteStill working on the spell but if I succeed I'll share my secret, Haha!
DeleteThose finger cookies remind me of butter cookies. I'm all about butter cookies! So I will be making them, or at least the dough. I need a day where I just eat a bowl of dough.
ReplyDeleteI'm in awe of your supernatural and magical talents. How do we gain such gifts with children? It's a Halloween miracle!! Miss you, girl
Can't vouch for the raw dough, but you'll like the cookies. Don't know where you've been hiding but you need to come out and play!
DeleteThat was awesome. Somehow you can make a recipe come into a regular blog post. You are genius my friend! I am amazed every time I stop by and visit
ReplyDeleteWow, high praise indeed. When you bake to relieve stress, you need to find a way to get those recipes into every post, it's self-preservation!
DeleteSeriously what the heck. Amazing. I can't take how lame i am anymore. I need a drink.
ReplyDeleteMake one for me, and make it a double!
DeleteYou're definitely the good witch! Love the Witch's Fingers recipe. Would love to try it, but I haven't even put all of our Halloween decorations up yet.
ReplyDeleteSilly Mommy Unmuted, you don't need to put up decorations before you eat the cookies
DeleteI'm going to be a zombie!! Based on my skill set, that's just perfect for me!! :P
ReplyDeleteHa Ha. At least your kids won't be calling you a Witch.
DeleteI love the witch finger cookie, great idea for Halloween.
ReplyDeleteFirst batch is long gone. I'm making another batch today for a meeting my husband's going to tonight.
DeleteThese are really cute and I love the idea of the cones being the waffle cones. I will definitely try this with my kids.
ReplyDeletethanks for sharing.
