Words I NEVER Want to Say Again

**PLEASE NOTE: Before any more kind, compassionate friends and casual readers send me any further notes of support and sympathy, please read this through to the end. Then go back and read the last stanza again . . .and again. . .

I need to say,
in the fastest possible way,
that my oldest son
went to jail today.

Never thought it would be,
these words coming from me,
but taking responsibility
is something he must see.

I’m terribly sad.
He’s been really bad.
And a vacation from this teen
actually needs to be had.

A lesson will be learned,
need his head to be turned.
There’s consequences for your actions
once the jury’s adjourned.

He’ll be safe, I hope.
With the situation, he’ll cope.
He’s about to see what happens
when reaching the end of your rope.

With all that I bake,
there’s no nail file in a cake.
He’ll be on his own
no impact Mom can make.

At the end of the day,
he’ll head home to say,
his Law Studies field trip
is out of the way!

    1. It already is but would be worse if either of the boys were to make a choice involving REAL consequences.

    2. My oldest did a jail field trip too. It should be required...

    3. I agree. They are actually interviewing an inmate, though and I'm not sure I love that aspect!

  2. I'm hoping I read that correctly and that your son went to Jail for a Civics class. Alexandra went to our state prison last year with her government class..I told her to dress up pretty for that one :P

    1. YES! Thank you, you get me! I'm getting so many sympathy emails, people aren't getting the last few lines. If people are thinking my older son is really in jail chances are he'll kill me and end up in jail!!

  6. HaHa! I have a funny jail story - years ago we moved to WV. I was homeshcooling my daughter at the time and I looked up homeschool groups. I introduced myself online and said we were relocating because of the new Federal Prison that was built in that city. After a month or so, I was asked which one of our family members was in prison! I laughed and so no! My partner works at the prison! More folks talked to me after that was cleared up!

    Love your post!

  7. At first I thought you were serious - the figured out you were serious, but not really. ;) I never knew they did that for their Law Studies - makes sense though, then they can be better prepared to deal with their future clients. :)

    2. One of my brothers was actually hauled into jail and called my folks and rousted my Mom out of bed. My Dad refused to get up and figured he could wait til the morning -- he was always getting into trouble in those days. Mom, of course, got up and dressed and hurried down. My brother was so rude to her as she was getting him released, the officer told him he thought he should keep him over night, and would talk my Mom into going home if he didn't apologize... He mumled something and went home with Mom. Fortunately, it was more of an attempt to scare him straight than for something that hurt anyone else... But I do wonder if he had been allowed to sit in the cell for a day or so -- no cushy bail out in the middle of the night -- might he have avoided some of the later problems he rushed into?
Anyway -- so glad it was just educational for your son! :)

  9. Cute. I am glad that this is just a field trip and not the real thing.

  10. Very cute! I love that it's real until the end. Can tell you read mystery novels. ;)

  11. Glad he didn't really end up in jail! lol
I think a little dose of reality is a good thing...keeps on the straight and narrow.

    1. I agree, it can't hurt kids to see that there are real consequences.

  12. What did you son think about the field trip? I hope he didn't walk away thinking that it could never happen to him, but walked away saying I'm responsible for my actions and this will never happen to me. It should be required in all middle schools and high schools, jail vs. a maximum security prison. It wouldn't hurt these kids to see first hand that sometimes bad things do happen to good people (people who look just like you).

    1. I agree, with TV making every situation look easy, it's a real dose of reality. I do like that he went, I think it's a great field trip.
