Today’s post is this month’s Funny Friday, a regular feature published on the last Friday of every month. Funny Friday is a collaborative project. Each month one of the participants submits a picture, then we all write 5 captions or thoughts inspired by that month’s picture. Links to the other bloggers’ posts are below, click on them and see what they’ve come up with. I hope we bring a smile to your face as you start your weekend.
Here’s today’s picture. It was submitted by Dawn of Cognitive Script.
1. Agnes: Umm, Mabel, did you not read the directions on the Depends package?
2. Sophie: Mabel, remember we had that talk about your husband's underwear not doing double duty as leg warmers?
Mabel: Sophie, it's a fashion statement. You just wait, it'll catch on and we'll all be doing it.
Sophie (whispering to Agnes): What's she going to do next, wear a jock strap as a necklace?
3. Agnes (whispering to Sophie): Well, that'll teach me to tell Mabel to hurry up, throw some clothes on and come shopping with us.
4. Sophie (whispering to Agnes): I think Mabel may not quite understand the meaning of "put on your big girl pants."
5. Security guard to department store saleswoman: I told you that people often put on clothes when trying to steal them. Now do you believe me?
Department store saleswoman: I believe you. And in this case it worked. 'Cause I'm sure as hell not taking those underwear back.
And now for something yummy:

Butternut Squash Fritters

Ingredients (makes about 20):
1 medium butternut squash, peeled, seeds removed, cut in cubes
2 TBSP orange juice
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup maple syrup
1 egg
3/4 cup flour
1/2 cup seasoned bread crumbs
1/4 tsp pepper
1 1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 cup chopped cranraisins
2 cups crushed Ritz crackers
4 TBSP oil
4 TBSP butter
Directions:
*Cook the squash cubes in the microwave until soft. Cool slightly. Place in a food processor (you may need to do this in 2 batches) with the orange juice, brown sugar and maple syrup. Process until smooth.
*Move the squash to a bowl. You should have about 3 cups of squash. Allow to cool for 1/2 hour, then mix in the egg, followed by the flour, bread crumbs, pepper, salt and cinnamon, then lastly the cranraisins. Place in refrigerator for at least 2 hours and up to overnight.
*Heat 1 TBSP oil and 1 TBSP butter in a large saute pan over medium heat until hot.
*Place the cracker crumbs in a bowl. Spoon a heaping TBSP of squash into the bowl and roll around until completely covered with cracker crumbs. Place into the hot pan and flatten gently with a spatula. Continue with as many patties will fit in the pan (5 - 6) without touching each other.
*Cook until the bottom is completely browned. Using 2 spatulas, gently flip the patties and cook until the other side is browned. It will take about 4 minutes per side. Remove to paper towels. Gently pat top with another paper towel, then move to a warm oven.
*Repeat until all the patties are cooked.
A very odd fashion look. Ritz crackers as coating is just tasty!
ReplyDeleteYes, quite odd. The question is, did she leave home that way?
DeleteOh. My. Word. I'm stuck on that picture. It took me a moment to actually 'see' what was happening. Now I can't unsee it! Gahhh!
ReplyDeleteAs to your responses . . . hilarious! I'm going with #5. No, #2. Who am I kidding? All of the above!
So glad you laughed. I like the second one best (if I do say so myself).
DeleteI love number 5. Yeah, no returns for that item.
ReplyDeleteFritters sound tasty. I make veggie fritters.
Do you deep fry yours? I know many of them are but I was trying to use less oil and saute these.
Delete#2 is great. but #5 is my favorite.
ReplyDeleteYeah, they all have a bit of the ewwwww factor.
DeleteOh, yuck, I can't move past that picture. Even for some butternut fritters served with yummy maple syrup.... Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com
